The City of Caterpillar - Demo and Live Recordings
http://www.mediafire.com/?d2ywyjwjwmi
I first saw The City of Caterpillar in '02 at a pg.99/Forstella Ford/Majority Rule show. TCoC stood out because they had a sound that was deeply rooted and akin to collection of touring bands (comprised of members from pg.99) but also had a huge Mogwai influence. Mogwai being one of my favorite bands, I was very impressed. Like most side projects, TCoC didn't last very long. In fact, they only came back to California one more time. Which is where I picked up this CD. The title pretty much sums up what is featured on it, as well as a few 7inch only tracks.

Catherine Wheel - Ferment

When it comes to Shoegaze, conversations begin & end with My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive (rightly so). But years before I even had a grasp on what Shoegaze or what Dreampop was, Catherine Wheel had a minimal radio hit with Black Metallic, which meant it was played here and there on alternative radio (KROQ). It really stood out because there wasn't much in terms of mainstream music that had this loud, soft, singing, into whispering vocals and then back into heavy guitars. To say that this album is essential is debatable when comparing them to Ride, Swervedriver or Adorable. But Catherine Wheel the band that introduced me to an entirely new music scene.

Quicksand - Slip

Talk about a life changing record... this is seriously such an important record to me... like I said earlier regarding the Rival Schools post... Walter has been a really huge influence on me with Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools, and my favorite of the 3 Quicksand!!! If you dont have this record do yourself a favor and check this lil gem out.

Chris Wollard And The Ship Thieves - Self Titled

Chris Wollard has put out some great records with his other bands Hot Water Music & The Draft... Well he did it again but this time in the form of a solo record... My favorite track on this record is "The Same To You" I can listen to that song on repeat over and over... really good stuff! Get it!
